Corn on the Cob

Milestones
Owen started Kindergarten on thursday, and on wednesday night he learned how to ride a two wheeler without training wheels!! It is amazing to me how fast he seems to be growing up. Wednesday night we decided to take the training wheels off and see how he did. It was literally less than three minutes and he was riding the bike without any support. He was so excited and proud of himself. He kept saying "I did it!".
Thursday morning was his first day of kindergarten. Mom came down early to walk to school with Owen, and Scott was able to stay home and go with us too! It was really exciting! The weather was really cool and cloudy and felt very fall like. We walked to the school and Owen played on the playground until it was time to line up for class. His teacher came out and gave all the kids name tags...... and then they went in for the day. I didn't cry like I thought I might. I felt very excited for Owen, I think he is going to have a great year, and is definitely ready to learn!!

Preschool
Raisa started preschool today. She has the same teacher that Owen had last year. It was really fun dropping her off. She was very excited to meet "new friends". She was definitely ready to go back to school. On the way she told me that she would miss me very, very much, but did not seem at all nervous when I left. She wore her "twirly" dress and had pancakes and a "bullseye" for breakfast. She is going to be going to school tuesday and thursday morning. I am hoping to get her into a dance class at the rec center on Friday mornings.
As an aside, Raisa has been having "bad dreams" the past few nights. I woke up this morning and almost stepped on her sleeping on the floor by my bed. She wasn't covered so I went and got a blanket for her. She woke up about five minutes later....."Thank you for the blanket Mama".
Owen starts kindergarten next thursday. We went to the Back to School night at his school last night. It was so nice being able to walk there...... it took about three minutes door to door!

Memorial for Grandma
Mom and Dad and I flew to Washington last weekend to join some of our family for a memorial for Grandma. We arrived on Wednesday night and spent the night with Mark and Carol. It was so great being there in the morning and getting to see Noah, Jennifer and Sadie as well as Rebecca and her daughters, Lucy and Coco. That afternoon we drove to the ferry and went to Port Townsend. We spent the afternoon and evening with Barb and Bruce. The next day was Friday. Mark and Carol flew their plane over and Noah, Jennifer, Austin and Sadie drove. We spent some time at the park watching Sadie play. The weather was spectacular. Mark and Dad and I went up in the little plane that afternoon and scattered some of Grandma and Uncle Keith's ashes near Protection Island. When Grandma lived at Cape George, she had a view of Protection Island. That evening we had a lovely dinner at the Port Hadlock Inn where Grandma and Grandpa had their boat. It was so nice to sit around and visit with everyone. When dinner was over we went outside and spent some time talking about Grandma and many wonderful memories and thoughts that we all had. I felt so lucky to be able to be there, and happy that we were all able to share some moments that we had treasured with such a remarkable and loving woman.

Tri for the Cure
I did it! Last year I participated in the running portion relay of the Triathalon. This year I did the whole thing! It was a BLAST! This was a "sprint" triathalon, 750 meter (1/2 mile) swim, 11 point something bike, and a 5k (3.1 mile)run.
I trained with four other remarkable and inspiring women. Four of us were in the "Buddy" wave. We did the whole thing together..... I was a VERY slow swimmer, Thanks for waiting for me ladies! We all agreed that this was a fantastic experience and that we will do it again next year...... if not sooner. In April I was barely able to swim one length of the pool.
Thanks to everyone for your positive words of encouragement, and all of those "you can do its". I felt everyone of them throughout the morning!
Adams County Fair
On Friday, August 3, we went to the Adams County Fair. It was Kids Day and they had a few free activities as well as reduced prices on the rides. The kids really seemed to enjoy it. They rode a camel! Click on the link to view the album. There are a few videos in the album. Look for the tiny t.v. shape in the bottom left of the picture and click on it to see the videos.

Family
Craig and Becky and the girls have been visiting Colorado for the past month or so before their move to South Korea. On July 28th, the extended Casorso family came up to Mom and Dad's for a BBQ. We were able to get a few photos of the immediate family. Next time we all get together the kids will be so BIG!
